For those who don’t know, Canada has literary science fiction and fantasy awards called the Aurora Awards, which go to works of science fiction and fantasy by Canadians and permanent residents. Hosting the national SFF awards means that even more editors, writers, fans and artists from across Canada will be coming to Ottawa! In honour of the awards, Can*Con will also be bringing an additional Author Guest of Honour (Kelly Robson).

Any Canadian or permanent resident can nominate and vote on the Aurora Awards by becoming a member of the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association for $10. The link to join is here: https://prixaurorawards.ca/home/become-a-new-member-page/

Once you join, you can look at the eligibility lists and read eligible works! If there are 2018 works you think should be on the eligibility lists but aren’t (including your own!) feel free to add them!

Nomination ballots have to be submitted between 1 March, 2019 and 21 May, 2019. The final 2019 Aurora ballot will be published soon afterwards. Those on the ballot are Aurora nominees and will receive nominee pins in a ceremony at Can*Con in October!

Voting opens on August 3rd, 2019 and the Pin Ceremony and the Awards Ceremony will happen in Ottawa on Can*Con weekend, 18-20 October!

We’re very excited to host the Aurora Awards and we’ll have additional announcements about the awards reception, the additional Guest of Honour, and special Aurora-related programming! Stay tuned!
